Oscarfication

After a long cold winter in the Midwest we were excited to hear that we would
be going to warm sunny Los Angeles to cover the Academy awards for Red
Carpet Concierge of Chicago. So after a long cold week of work in Indiana we
arrived in LA amidst a cold front and checked into the Holiday Inn in Burbank,
CA during a snow storm! I guess the swimsuit and shorts I packed wouldn’t
be of much use this weekend. Sunday morning we got all dolled up and
headed to the Kodak Theatre for the pre Oscars Red Carpet coverage. I say
headed to the Kodak Theatre because we couldn’t actually get right to the
theatre due to all the streets in a 4 block radius around the theatre being
closed with no parking in site. We jumped out of the car and hoofed it the 4
blocks to the theatre, which was not bad for the guys in the group, but I’m
sure was much less accommodating for the ladies in fashionable high heels.
Once the Kodak Theatre was in site we could feel the excitement and
anticipation amongst our group as well as nearby reporters and fans.
So close yet so far, because LA’s finest erected 12 foot tall barricades in
another 4 block labyrinth leading up to the theatre itself. Speaking of LA’s
finest they did an excellent job of crowd control and direction, and it seemed
as if they could have all been actors/actresses themselves. It kind of
reminded me of the Harrison Ford movie Hollywood Homicide. The pre Red
Carpet activity was exciting, but limited to interviewing fans in the bleachers,
and other interviewers, in addition to taking pictures and back ground footage
of the Red Carpet and entrance into the Kodak Theatre itself. Being that there
was very few celebrities there in the pre-noon hours limited the opportunity to
for interviews.

During the Oscars ceremony itself we were covering Kiss the Stars event at
Clive Christian in Beverly Hills. Once again it was unseasonably or even
seasonably cold for Southern California. Despite this many celebrities and
social lites were in attendance. Among those were Vicki Roberts; TV
personality and legal counsel, Brittany Roberts; actress, blogger, and children’
s book author, Cedric Sanders, The Social Network, Eddie Hassel; actor in the
movie The Kids Are Alright nominated for 4 Oscars, Alexander and Corina Van
Bubenheim; composer, Nominated Best Foreign Film composition 2001, and
currently working on helping elderly Apache Indians with a project titled Tears
of a Shaman, and many others.

Afterwards we headed to West Hollywood to the Velvet Margarita for an
Oscars after party hosted by BJ Murray If you have never been to an Academy
Awards after party it is definitely worth the time, at least once. The Velvet
Margarita has the best smoked salmon quesadillas that I’ve ever tasted, and
the people and conversation were second to none. Although the weather didn’
t cooperate the opportunity to see and talk with various actors/actresses,
singers, composers, and directors was interesting and once in a life time
opportunity that hopefully we can repeat again next year. Let’s just hope that
global warming kicks in so that I can wear my shorts while there.
