I had to be crazy, it was so cold outside, a typical 55% in June . But this was my first chance to visit Burnham Harbor aboard the Red Witch
sailboat. I have been a sturdy boater for many years and packed my winter fur hat, gloves, scarfs, boots and wore my long underwear.
Burnham Harbor is located in the middle of the museum campus in downtown Chicago on Lake Michigan. Located directly east of Soldier
Field with McCormick Place on the south and the John G. Shedd Aquarium on the north. Take the 18th Drive exit from Columbus Drive or
Lake Shore Drive then turn left on Burnham Harbor Drive and turn right on Waldron Drive.
As we pulled away from the dock for an 8:30pm cruise I turned and looked at this beautiful impression of the harbor and city.
It did not take long to retire to the cabin for a cozy respite, but in no time at all I was enticed back to the deck. And was I ever surprised. You
know what they say about Chicago weather-it was very still no waves and a warm blanket of summer night wrapped around us and we
immediately took off our hats and gloves. It was so quiet we whispered when we spoke, it was a meditating experience that I will never
forget.
Linda Decker, our hostess and Director of Great Lakes Events encouraged some of the Scottish lads on board to sing us some of their ditties
and they were great! I encourage you all to seek out this experience on the Red Witch sailing boat-an icon of Chicago. 773.354.1563
