I was welcomed to the Treasure Hunt at the Merchandise Mart on Wacker
and Wells  for the luxury sample sale.  There I found brand name sofas,
fabric, chairs, dining tables, beds, area rugs, casual/outdoor furniture,
lighting, art and accessories, discounted up to 75 percent.

The Merchandise Mart is home to the world's first and largest design
center.  It encompasses 700,000 square feet, boasting 130 showrooms
and features more than 2,000 product lines.

It brought back many memories of the days when I worked at the Mart
doing marketing and then on an emergency turned into a showroom
escort.  It turned out to be an enjoyable event as the showrooms are so
overwhelmingly beautiful that they speak for themselves.  I learned that
some stages of ordering these products can start with the size and
preference of the buyer.  Kind of like the three bears that might be living in a
mansion on Lake Shore Drive.

I also visited the Dream Rooms on the first floor, north door; they will be
there until July 12, 2008.  There is no charge and they are open
Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday until 3 p.m.   Since there is a
no photography allow in the Merchandise Mart World Trade building you
will have to take my word for it-it is a celebration in luxury!

On my way out the front door I came across this friendly Chicagoan waiting
for her daughter to pick up  their Treasures.  We had a pleasant
conversation and then it was on to tour Wells Street.
This is the Wells Street bridge and one El-one coming and one going
through the loop.   It is one of approximately 20 bridges that operate over the
Chicago River.  The bridges rise during the spring and summer months
around 30,00 times to let fun loving boaters in and out on their way to Lake
Michigan.  The total time is 8 minutes for city bridge tenders to
accommodate this function.  Just enough time to listen to two and a half
songs on the radio and tidy up the front seat area of your car.
Chen & Chen provides rare, one of a kind, Chinese and Asian antique furniture,
accessories and art works that will add a touch of elegance to your home or
office. Each piece is hand-picked from remote areas of China. Their buyers
travel to many different communities in China to purchase those rare antiques.
They have lived in China for 20 years and in the USA for over 20 yeas and  are
familiar with the customs of both cultures, whereby their insight and negotiating
skills bring you the best of China's ancient treasures.

From the ancient warlords of China, to the monastic monks of the Shaolin
Temple, Chen & Chen is proud to provide you with the finest and most beautiful,
rare and authentic one-of-a-kind museum piece.

We chose this area of the store to photograph because of the rich coloring of the
fine wood and the master design combination.  More and more homeowners
are choosing wood, steel, stone and other natural elements for their striking
colors and letting the paint palates fall by the wayside.

Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati's is as rich in
history as it's pizza is in flavor. Lou got his start in the 1940's, working with his
father Rudy in Chicago's first deep dish pizzeria.  They now have 28 pizzerias in
Chicagoland.

I first found out about Lou Malnati's in 1992 when I was a concierge for the
Holiday Inn Mart Plaza.  It took one pizza to convince me that my guest could
experience the finest in their pizza quest.  My favorite item on their menu is
Chicken Louie, the only thing wrong with that is you have to drool when other
pie's pass you by.  But one can only eat so much...  More about that later.
Check out their menu on

Melissa Steele of Mobilimobel met me with a friendly smile and after
introductions Melissa showed me to a fashionable new office chair-the skeleton
chair.   The basic idea behind the DS-2100 is a very light construction.  Using
Nature as its pattern, the chair emulates the human back-bones with the ribs
forming the supporting elements.  The individual slots are crafted in the finest
de Sede leather to adapt individually to the shape of the body and ensure the
ultimate in seating comfort.

Available as a swivel visitor's chair -or as an executive office model with casters,
tilt mechanism, height adjustment and headrest.

I volunteered to sit!
